Stellaris Species Customisation Mods from Sci-Fi Franchises

Updated 21st June 2017

It didn’t take long for fans to import their favourite sci-fi franchises into Stellaris by way of modding. Now, more than a year on, there are many, many of these franchise import mods to choose from.

I’ve previously published lists of Stellaris Portrait Mods, Stellaris City Mods, and Stellaris Ship Set Mods, which have all very intentionally excluded any content from established fictional universes, such as Star Wars and Mass Effect.

The purpose of this post is to meet that need (because there is a need) in one fell swoop. Found on this page are any species customisation options from popular franchises, including new flag emblems, portraits, cityscapes, ship sets, and so on. These cover franchises that have proven popular amongst the Stellaris modding community. Not included are any total conversion mods or mods that alter the game beyond graphical/flavour inclusions, or any mods that introduce content from non-sci-fi franchises (such as Game of Thrones). This page does not aim to be complete and is largely a reflection of my own opinion of the mods, but I believe it to be an accurate representation of quality mods from the community.

You can subscribe to any subset of these (not recommended to take them all at once – some assets are duplicated or incompatible) using my Steam Collection “Stellaris Species Customisation from Sci-Fi Franchises“.

Mods are organised in the following manner:

  • Franchise
    • Modification type
      • Specific mod

On each level, headings are ordered alphabetically. There are also some cross-franchise mods (with their own top-level category) and multi-type mods (with their own modification type category).

The full list is as follows:

Halo

Multi-type

Sins of the Prophets: Stellaris

Authors: Unikraken and Lavo

Sins of the Prophets began life as a Halo mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. This mod (the Stellaris version, so we’re clear!) includes animated portraits for humans and the Covenant (find the the Halo Covenant Species and Halo Universe Human Species mods separately below), namelists, flag emblems, and UNSC and Covenant ships!

Also included is a cityscape.

Mass Effect

This mod collects together a few separate mods various authors to introduce more flag emblems (gold and silver) and six animated species portraits and namelists (Asari, Cerberus, Alliance, Turians, Quarians, Salarians) into Stellaris.

(Keep scrolling down if you want individually-packed Mass Effect portraits.)

Mass Effect – The Asari Civilisation

If you’re looking only for graphical mods, watch out for those last two features.

The creators recommend you play with the Stellar Trails Disabler mod for a more immersive experience. There are also Ship Classes Extended and New Ship Classes & More compatibility patches.

United Sci-Fi Races (Animated Only)

united-scifi-races-animated.jpg

Author: Fugasas
Workshop link

This mod adds a massive 90+ animated portraits to Stellaris. It’s part of a larger mod containing static portraits too, called, unsurprisingly, United Sci-Fi Races. This has over 190 races. A number of these animated portraits are included in some of the other mods featured on this page.

The large mod includes portraits from XCOM, Doctor Who, and Babylon 5, amongst other franchises. By default, the animated version of the mod allows random AI empires to utilise the portraits; the larger mod, should you choose to use it instead, requires a patch: Patch for United Sci-Fi Races.
